1. Policy Statement
Creative Media Skills Institute (CMSI) is committed to ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of all students, staff, tutors, contractors, and visitors.
CMSI recognises its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated regulations and is committed to providing a safe and healthy working and learning environment.
2. Purpose of the Policy
The purpose of this policy is to:

Establish clear responsibilities for health and safety

Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

3. Scope
This policy applies to:

Students

Staff

Freelance tutors and visiting lecturers

Contractors

Visitors and guests
It covers all CMSI-controlled premises, activities, and equipment.
4. CMSI Responsibilities
CMSI will:

Provide and maintain safe premises and equipment

Conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessments
-
Implement appropriate control measures
-
Provide information, instruction, and training
-
Maintain safe systems of work
-
Ensure safe storage and use of equipment and materials
-
Provide access to first aid provision
-
Monitor and review health and safety performance
5. Individual Responsibilities
All individuals are expected to:

Take reasonable care of their own health and safety
-
Avoid actions that may put others at risk
-
Follow CMSI policies, procedures, and instructions
-
Report hazards, incidents, and near misses
-
Use equipment safely and as instructed
6. Risk Assessments
CMSI will:

Identify hazards associated with activities and environments
-
Assess risks and implement control measures
-
Review assessments regularly or following significant change
Typical risk areas include:

Use of technical equipment (e.g. film, media, lighting equipment)

Manual handling
-
Electrical safety
-
Slips, trips, and falls

Fire safety
7. Incident Reporting
All accidents, incidents, and near misses must be:

Reported promptly to a member of staff or management
-
Recorded in the incident reporting system
-
Investigated where appropriate
Serious incidents will be reported in accordance with RIDDOR requirements where applicable.
8. First Aid
CMSI will ensure:

Adequate first aid provision is available

Trained first aiders are identified
-
First aid kits are accessible and maintained
All individuals should report injuries requiring first aid immediately.
9. Fire Safety
CMSI will:

Conduct fire risk assessments

Maintain fire detection and alarm systems

Provide clearly marked emergency exits

Ensure evacuation procedures are in place
All individuals must:

Familiarise themselves with evacuation routes

Participate in fire drills

Follow instructions in the event of an emergency
10. Equipment and Facilities
CMSI will ensure that:

Faulty equipment is removed from use immediately

11. Contractors and Visitors
