CMS Institute (CMSI) is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of its operations. We aim to create a learning and working environment in which all individuals are treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and are able to achieve their full potential.

CMSI recognises that diversity enriches the learning experience and reflects the industries we serve. We are committed to eliminating

discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity, and fostering good relations between all individuals.

This policy applies to:

• All employees (full-time, part-time, freelance, and visiting lecturers)

• Students and learners

• Applicants and prospective students

• Contractors and external partners

The policy applies to all CMSI activities including teaching, recruitment, assessment, and partnership delivery.

 

3. Legal Framework

CMS Institute operates in accordance with the principles of the Equality Act 2010 and other relevant UK legislation.

We are committed to ensuring that no individual is discriminated against unlawfully or treated less favourably due to protected characteristics.

4. Protected Characteristics

CMSI recognises the following protected characteristics under UK law:

• Age

• Disability

• Gender reassignment

• Marriage or civil partnership

• Pregnancy or maternity

• Race (including nationality and ethnicity)

• Religion or belief

• Sex

• Sexual orientation

 

Discrimination, harassment, or victimisation based on any of these characteristics will not be tolerated.

 

5. Types of Discrimination

CMSI recognises the following forms of discrimination:

• Direct Discrimination: Treating someone less favourably because of a protected characteristic.

• Indirect Discrimination: Applying a policy or practice that disadvantages a particular group.

• Harassment: Unwanted behaviour that violates a person’s dignity or creates a hostile or offensive environment.

8. Responsibilities

 

All Staff:

• Uphold this policy in all interactions

• Treat all individuals with respect and fairness

• Challenge discriminatory behaviour

• Report concerns where appropriate

 

Programme Leader / Management:

• Ensure implementation of this policy

• Monitor equality and diversity practices

• Provide guidance and training to staff

 

Students:

• Treat others with respect

• Adhere to expected standards of behaviour

• Report incidents of discrimination or harassment

 

9. Recruitment and Admissions

 

CMSI ensures that:

• Selection processes are fair, transparent, and based on merit

• No applicant is disadvantaged due to protected characteristics

• Information is accessible and inclusive

10. Reasonable Adjustments

CMSI will make reasonable adjustments to support students with disabilities or additional needs. This may include:

Adapted learning materials

• Flexible teaching approaches

• Additional support where required

11. Complaints and Reporting

Any individual who believes they have experienced discrimination, harassment, or unfair treatment should report the matter.

CMSI will:

• Take all complaints seriously

• Investigate promptly and fairly

• Maintain confidentiality where appropriate

• Take appropriate action where issues are identified

 

12. Monitoring and Review

 

CMSI will:

• Monitor equality and diversity practices

• Review this policy annually

• Use feedback to improve inclusivity and access
