ABOUT THE COURSE
This course offers an exciting, hands-on journey into the world of set decoration, props making, and the art department. You’ll master the essential skills that bring film sets to life, working with industry-standard materials and techniques to create stunning visual environments for screen.
Located in the heart of the UK’s film industry, 80% of your learning will take place at Creative Media Skills Institute in Pinewood Studios. Here, you’ll have access to modern, purpose-built studios and workshops while learning directly from experienced industry professionals currently working on major film and TV productions.

What will I learn?
Get ready for a hands-on experience that’s as creative as it is practical! You’ll dive into the exciting world of the art department, mastering everything from prop making and set decoration to working with miniatures. Through real-world projects, you’ll build a portfolio showcasing your skills in designing, crafting, and dressing sets.

As part of the programme, you’ll develop a broad range of industry-ready skills—whether it’s teamwork, problem-solving, creative thinking, or managing a project from start to finish. You'll also gain practical knowledge of how to operate within the film industry, making sure you’re prepared for the dynamic world of TV and film production.

Across the programme you will have continuous assessment with particular focus on practical work required for the projects. In the UAL grading structure your final grade, Pass, Merit or Distinction is based on the final major project.
Entry Requirements & Career Progression
Eligibility: You must be 18 years or older to apply. While GCSEs in English and Maths are a plus, we welcome mature candidates with strong literacy and numeracy skills. Career Pathways: Starting out in the Art Department often means jumping into roles like Trainee Prop Maker, Junior Set Decorator, or Assistant Art Director. As you gain experience, you’ll have the chance to work on major TV shows, films, commercials, and more. From designing props and building miniatures to dressing sets for blockbuster productions, the skills you’ll develop here will pave the way for a creative and rewarding career in the film industry.

Funding
This course is run in conjunction with our partners Buckinghamshire College, the course will be split between Pinewood and Amersham College. If you are under 19 on the date of enrolment this course is funded.
There is an additional Material Fee of £350 which can be paid through the Online Store. If you are over 19 on the date of enrolment the course Fee is £6000. You will be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan through the government's Student Finance website for £5420 and the remaining £580 can be paid in four instalments through the Online Store. This cost includes the Material Fee.
