Iain Smith

In 1978 production managed Bertrand Tavernierメs モDeathwatchヤ starring Romy Schneider and Harvey Keitel. A year later he joined David Puttnam and Hugh Hudson. This was to make モChariots of Fireヤ starring Ian Charleson and Ben Cross. Iain went on to line produce a variety of films for David Puttnam. These included Bill Forsythメs モLocal Heroヤ, Roland Joffeメs モThe Killing Fieldsヤ, and Roland Joffeメs モThe Missionヤ. He also produced Brian Gilbertメs モThe Frog Princeヤ. In 1987 he formed Applecross Productions. He then worked on モHearts of Fireヤ, モKilling Dadヤ, モCity of Joyヤ, and モ1492 ヨ Conquest of Paradiseヤ. In 1994 he co-produced Stephen Frearsメ モMary Reillyヤ, followed by Luc Bessonメs モThe Fifth Elementヤ in 1996. He then produced Jean-Jacques Annaudメs モSeven Years in Tibetヤ, followed by Jon Amielメs モEntrapmentヤ. After this he executive produced Tony Scottメs モSpy Gameヤ, followed by Anthony Minghellaメs モCold Mountainヤ. He then produced Oliver Stoneメs モAlexanderヤ followed by Darren Aronofskyメs モThe Fountainヤ, and Alfonso Cuaronメs モChildren of Menヤ, and Timur Bekmambetrovメs モWantedヤ. The モThe A Teamヤ with director Joe Carnahan stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper and Jessica Biel was made for Twentieth Century Fox and most recently The fourth of George Millersメ Franchise Mad Max Fury Road. Iain Smith has served on the boards of the UK Film Council, Scottish Screen, the Joint board of Creative Scotland, the Scottish Film Council, the Scottish Film Production Fund, the Scottish Film Training Trust and as a Governor of the National Film and Television School. In 2005 he was awarded a BAFTA for Outstanding Achievement in Film and was made an OBE by the Queen in the 2008 New Yearメs Honours List.
